HOW TO THINK CRITICALLY & PROBLEM SOLVE
In the past management used to expect that workers will do what they told them, but this thing has been changed over years. As nowadays management expected that workers would use their brains in thinking critically. As a part of thinking critically they should be able to solve problems and make their own decisions, either it's individually or as parts of group. After that, the decisions will reach to management, fellow workers, clients, the government, and the public.
Facing some problems or a perplexing issue make us feel worry before we separate the issues, examine the facts and reaching a decision. All that worry can become directed thinking by channeling it into the next step. And here five simple steps can help you to become a valuable knowledge worker.
1. Identify and clarify the problem.
First of all you should recognizing that there is a problem exists. There are two kind of problems: big and unmistakable problem for example: failure of an airfreight delivery service to get packages to customers on time. Continuing annoyances problems for example: regularly running out of toner for an office copy machine. So, the first step to reach to a good solution you should pinpoint the problem.
2. Gather information.
You should learn and know more about the problem case like to look for some potential causes and solution, where you can call suppliers, check some files, or brainstorm with some workers.
3. Evaluate the evidence.
To know from where these information came, if it's represent various points of view, if the information gathered accurately and if it's fact or opinion.
4. Consider alternatives and implications.
You can have conclusions from the evidence you gathered and the pose solutions. Then, make sure you know the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative. You should also know the costs, benefits, consequences, the obstacles, and how can they be handled. As well as, the best solution that can serves your goals and your organization.
5. Choose and implement the best alternative.
Select one of your alternatives and try to put it into action, then, follow your decision by controlling the results of implementing your plan.
