Critical thinking is a course that cover the basic principles of critical thinking, as well as, its introduces the student to the concept of critical thinking and how to infuse this concept throughout our instruction. Where it’s also, introduced the student to be more cognitive and affective strategies characteristic of the critical thinker. In addition, it’s an important course for the student because it made them to think creativity, out the box, deeper and thinking about the thing or the situation before they decide.

 

This course covers many different topics such as: definition and purpose of critical thinking, barriers to critical thinking, concepts of critical thinking, arguments and persuasion technics. The most interesting topic was the persuasive techniques in advertising, which this topic helped me to realize and make better decision based on my opinion especially when it’s come to choose products that I need. For example: I will think more before I buy a beauty product because in these type of products they use the ethos technic, which they use celebrity endorses a product to give it more credibility, as well as, it’s may involves statistics from reliable experts. When it’s come to the celebrity endorsement I may be a fan for this celebrity, who is in the advertisement, so absolutely I will go and buy the product because I want to be like her and use what ever she use, but after taking this course I realized that this is one of the advertisement technics, where they brought this celebrity to presser me to buy this product and it may not be the best one among the other beauty products. And when it’s come to statistics for example: when they have an ad with the sentence 9 out of 10 dentists /doctors/ experts agree that XXX product is better than any other brand.

 

I enjoyed the topics that we covered throughout the semester, where they were something new to me and I love to learn something new and try to use what I learned my daily life, so I can gain new experiences and knowledge. As well as, I enjoyed attending the classes because I liked Ms. Jean’s method of teaching.

 

In my opinion, I think I had participated well in this course where it’s shows in my grades and I have done a good work in my projects, where it’s shows my knowledge. I would like to improve my reflections writing because I think my reflection papers missed some deep explanation and specific examples.

 

Defiantly I will recommend this course to other students because it’s really make the student think differently and be more critical about their decision, as well as, it make them more literate, which is something important for their future.

 

The best advice I can give to students who will take this course next semester is to take this course seriously because it’s really helped us or the student to make a better choose with a new way of thinking or look at the situation from different angle, as well as, it will benefit them in their future.
